A downloadable game for Windows

Avetinja (pronounced ə-ve-tɪ-njɑ:) is a puzzle roguelike RPG inspired by Serbian and Slavic myth. Players take on the role of one of three classes as they fight their way through various monsters, hoping to reach the castle that's "neither in the sky nor on the earth" and defeat the dreaded Avetinja.

Players will fight monsters in one-on-one battles, matching tiles with gameplay inspired by match-2 games like Clickomania and classic RPGs and roguelites. Many item and ability combinations will not just improve your chances of survival, but may even break the game if you're clever and lucky enough!

This version of the game is a "proof of concept demo," and is meant to offer a taste of what a single area of the full game would play like.

Features:

  • Gorgeous hand-drawn artwork
  • Simple tile-matching gameplay that's easy to pick up, but hard to master
  • A tooltip system that will explain various items and special mechanics you mouse over
  • 3 character classes, each with unique abilities that affect their gameplay style
  • Over 50 items you can equip, activate or consume
  • 27 perks (called "boons" and "burdens") that will help or hinder you in your adventure
  • 6 enemy types
  • 3 special encounters
  • A leveling system that lets you improve your character's stats
  • An inheritance mechanic that lets your pass on a single item to your next character if you die

I didn't expect to be coming back to a demo several times in a week now, but this really gripped me. I was initially interested because of the serbian themes and very cool art, and those are great, for sure. But the clickomania part is something I can both engage in and relax to, and I really didn't see that coming. Great stuff.

Thank you for the lovely comment and we're real happy you've been enjoying the demo!

The world needs more puzzle-RPGs so this is a very welcome endeavour.

A killer concept and whimsical storybook art take this game a long way, and it's great to play a roguelike game that isn't twitchy action or card-based for a change.

I had a chill time on my first run, interested to see where you take it from here. Keep on making something great, I know you 'ave it in ya.

Thank you for the kind words! We have a few more things planned for the game after we recharge our batteries :)
